3 Simple DIY Repairs and Projects

Painting in your home or apartment is a cheap way to improve the look and the decor of individual rooms or the whole space. Painting, however, can be expensive, if you hire contractors, especially when most painting jobs are feasible for amateurs and almost all can be fixed if the outcomes aren't ideal. What that means for you is that you can experiment a bit with painting jobs inside the home without fear of hurting yourself or others. Aside from proper ventilation, there aren't many significant health risks to painting, assuming you're using the right kinds of paint, etc. Painting in the home can also effectively cover up nail holes and other blemishes on walls, ceilings, etc. If you use the proper supplies; painter's tape, effective brushes for the jobs you're considering, appropriate paints; painting inside the home can be quick, easy and effective. Just try not to get addicted to constantly changing the colors inside the space!

Faucet Repair

Fixing faucets can be an easy home repair project, even for beginners to DIY and home repair. Leaky faucets can be annoying, costly (depending on how many faucets are leaking and how they leak) and wasteful; fixing them should be a priority. Leaky faucets, en masse, are bad for the environment and bad for your home as well as they can be indicative of larger problems with piping if you're not able to identify what's causing the leaks. You can find the shut off valve for the faucet you're thinking of repairing or use the house shut off valve to shut down the flow of water through the faucet and get started on the project. Then figure out what type of faucet you have and, based on that, remove the washer, examine and possibly replace it. If that doesn't repair the leak, then it may be time to call the professionals, but more likely than not, that should be enough to take care of the problem. Save some money and try it yourself first!

Toilet Clogging

A clogged toilet can be a real hassle. It can smell, spill over onto the bathroom floor and keep you and your family from being able to answer the call of nature. Clogged toilets are also one of the most common reasons that families call professionals to come and engage in home repair. Plumbers can be costly, time consuming and irritating to deal with. If you're able to unclog your toilet yourself, you can save yourself the irritation and deal with the job without paying for the pleasure. There are a variety of ways to unclog the toilets in your home from plungers to compressed air. One good way to deal with pesky, persistent clogs is to use a plumbing snake; an apparatus of coiled metal which can be pushed down into the pipes under your toilet and clear up clogs. Purchasing these measures can save you much more money on plumbers and help you deal with toilet clogs immediately, preventing you from having to wait and deal with the smell, the inconvenience or the irritation.

Home repair is like anything else; the more you know, and the more ambitious you are, the more you'll get out of it. Use these tips to get into these projects and repairs for yourself and, as always, do your own research so that you can begin working on your home or apartment and avoid paying someone to do what you can do yourself.
