Above and Beyond Catering Lives Up To Its Name

Above and Beyond Catering of Boston's South End truly lives up to its name, by both the menu and the level of customized service offered. Take their selection of hors d'oeuvres, for examples. Forget the usual bacon-wrapped scallops and instead think seared duck breast on yucca pancakes with tropical salsa, potato and pea samosas with tamarind and date chutney, or confetti corn fritters with chipotle-lime dip. These scrumptious offerings alone make the catering company suitable for virtually any themed party or event.

"Although we always try to create cohesive, upscale menus, our options are infinite and never limited to any specific cultural influence or theme," says general manager Eric Morris. "We cater to our client's needs. Menus are customized to the customer's own culinary style and pallet. We have an extremely talented culinary team that can take whatever we toss their way, and event planners that are creative and excellent at putting a cohesive menu together and menu items that compliment each other."

Above and Beyond Catering was started in 1996 by Mark Haley, who honed his catering skills all over Boston and worked for the Westin Hotel. He decided that his passion was making people happy by providing quality catered food, and the company's motto continues to this day thanks to the staff that works closely with clients to provide a customized catering service that goes beyond the food.

"We are a full service, off premise catering company," explains Morris. "This means we are completely accustomed to staging in all different areas from a conference room to a closet. As far as our involvement in the planning, we can do as much or as little as you'd like us to. We execute each event with respect for the client, the venue, and the culinary staff."

All Above and Beyond employees are handpicked professionals, and have experience in the hospitality and restaurant industries, whether they are bartenders, cooks, or servers. The catering company holds a state liquor license, carries liquor liability insurance, and all of their bartenders are certified in TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures.) The planning staff is also mindful of costs when it comes to planning events, and will work with a client to ensure the menu is pleasing while not exceeding a budget.

The catering company can handle any size party from corporate outings and meetings to weddings and large-scale bashes. Themed menus include the Asian Inspired Wedding, the Cuban French Themed Wedding, Cocktail Party With Raw Bar, and New England Clam Bake. The company also caters fresh breakfast items including a buffet and brunch.

Being situated in New England means the staff has hands-on experience with many area venues that are suitable for hosting events, and can make recommendations to clients.

"Many of the most prestigious historical venues trust us with their properties because they have experienced how meticulously we follow their regulations," states Morris. "We know the territory. We aren't second guessing ourselves when we get to a job, and our staff is very professional, intelligent and well prepared. That is key in catering."
