Installing wiring in your home or apartment is important and complex but it can be done, even by amateurs. The first stage in installing wiring in your home or apartment is to turn off the power. This seems obvious but its essential for keeping the whole process safe and not electrocuting yourself. You can trip the breaker or remove the main fuse, though you should remember that doing so will turn off the power to your whole house. Use a neon tester to make sure the power is off so that you know what you're doing is safe. Remember that what you're doing requires a couple of basic pieces of knowledge.

Use the color coding of electrical wiring to prevent errors. Wiring is set up to be specially designed so that you don't accidentally cross wires where you shouldn't. When installing wiring make sure to keep track of which wires are supposed to connect to which, so that you don't make do damage when installing wiring.

When installing wiring in your home or apartment its important to match connectors to the types of cables used to the correct connectors. Some boxes are built with connectors and have to be handled accordingly. For example, armored cable connectors are built with inner rims designed to hold fiber bushings at the end of the cable. These may sound like minutiae but they can make a big difference in how effective and safe your installations are.
