Beer Dreams Come True at The Pour Farm Tavern

By Elisha Neubauer

"A dream is just a dream. A goal is a dream with a plan and a deadline." - Harvey MacKay

That is exactly how The Pour Farm Tavern in New Bedford came to be.

Once a mere dream, the Tavern found its beginnings shortly after Craig Ribeiro, owner, returned home from active duty in 2005. "As with anything in life it all started with a dream that turned into plan, and from there, the plan was executed," he says.

Ribeiro has always searched out the best beers he could possibly find in the area but now, with the opening of The Pour Farm Tavern, he's turned his search worldwide. "The beer decision is probably the most complicated simple problem we have," Ribeiro explains. "Availability of certain beers from our multiple distributors can be a challenge at times."

Which of the beers stocked at The Pour Farm Tavern is his favorite? Ribeiro answers like a true beer lover: "I don't have a favorite beer. I do have favorite styles that change throughout the year though."

Customers appreciate the constant change in beers gracing the Tavern's menu. "I love the fact that on any given day, I find about 2-3 different brews that are rare and unique and I would never be able to find if it weren't for the Pour Farm," one reviewer states excitedly.

On the food menu, Pour Farm offers everything from soups and salads to baby back ribs and hearty sandwiches that will stand up to any beer. Check out the Cubano, a smoked pulled pork sandwich with ham, cheese, pickle, and spicy sauce - or the Beef Brisket Cheesesteak, served with American cheese and caramelized onions. Of course, beer and sandwiches - while fantastic - are not the only things The Pour Farm Tavern is known for.

"We do a few outdoor events a year," says Ribeiro. These well-known events include such unique occurrences as The Motorcycle Run and the Pumpkin Beer'd Fest. Additionally, the bar plays host to a rotating gallery for local artists. As with the beer selection, Ribeiro again claims he doesn't have a favorite event. "It would be like picking a favorite child," he jokes.

As fans of the bar seem to all agree, The Pour Farm Tavern is a bar that will please beer geeks, snobs, and craft beer enthusiasts. Between the cultured atmosphere, knowledgeable staff, and varied menu options, The Pour Farm Tavern has made quite a name for itself in the New Bedford Area. After all, it's hard for patrons not to enjoy an establishment when the owner shares in the appreciation: "The Pour Farm was a lifelong dream that I was actually able to achieve."
