Blue Lotus Healing Arts' Core Treatments Are a Triple Threat For Stress, Ailments

By Pamela Sosnowski

Blue Lotus Healing Arts of Needham is a triple threat to stress and achy muscles. The healing center, owned and founded by two acupuncturists, offers acupuncture, yoga, and massage to promote natural healing and soothe a variety of emotional and physical ailments.

"All three modalities offer holistic techniques to help individuals relax, regain balance in their lives, and heal on a deep level," co-owner Kirsten Allen said. "In addition we offer energy healing and a Wednesday evening meditation group."

Blue Lotus Healing Arts can be found in downtown Needham. Established in 2015, the 1000-square foot space receives plenty of natural light and houses a yoga studio, a peaceful meditation space, and massage and acupuncture treatment rooms. The center's philosophy is to help their clients open their hearts and become more aware of the mind/body connection, ultimately leading them to fulfill their life's true purpose.

Both Allen and her co-owner, Kathleen Krivak, are licensed acupuncturists and perform acupuncture regularly at their center. They can offer a traditional diagnosis session between 90 and 120 minutes long where the client's medical history is discussed before their first treatment, and regular treatments which usually last about an hour.

Acupuncture is an ancient form of Asian medicine based on the belief that every individual has what is called Qi (pronounced "chee"), or energy running inside their body. When the Qi is blocked or unbalanced, it is believed to create discomfort and even illness. Acupuncture involves the painless insertion of sterile, hair-thin needles into specific points along the body to redirect and open up the flow of Qi, helping to rebalance the body.

"Many symptoms are successfully addressed by acupuncture: physical complaints such as headaches, digestive difficulties, infertility, joint pain, and allergies, to mention only a few," Allen said. "Emotional issues such as depression, anxiety, PTSD and other complaints are also well suited to acupuncture treatment. The ideal client is an individual who wishes to explore a new and comprehensive way of understanding the root causes of imbalance and disease."

Several varieties of massage therapy, including Swedish, deep tissue, orthopedic, prenatal, and Shiatsu are also offered at the center by experienced, licensed massage therapists. Right now the center is offering a special autumn deal of $60 on any 60-minute massage.

Several seasoned yoga instructors teach a variety of classes including beginner, Hatha, and spa yoga. Blue Lotus Healing Arts also has yoga classes for children, including a class for children with autism or ADHD, and an infant yoga and massage class. The center also holds specialized workshops such as one designed for golfers to help them remain more flexible when off the course. Yoga camps for kids and teens are held during the summer months.

Lastly, clients can visit the center for a meditation or shamanic healing session, an ancient technique especially helpful for those that have suffered abuse or trauma. Several healing workshops such as healing with plant spirits are also offered throughout the year.

Blue Lotus Healing Arts is open seven days a week, and all classes and therapeutic services must be booked in advance. Allen and her co-owner love hearing success stories from the many clients that visit their center.

"[We] both love our profession," Allen said. "It is a gift to be able to offer the healing power of acupuncture to people who have been unable to understand or alleviate their discomfort, and having the additional therapies of massage and yoga in our center add other avenues of healing and self discovery to clients wishing to explore complementary approaches to well being."
