Boston-Area Swim School Teaches Water Safety, Offers Flexible Scheduling for Parents

By Kelly Church

Adorned with palm trees, bright colors and funky decor, Goldfish Swim School is catered towards young children willing to learn how to swim. The Greater Boston facility is home to a large, heated pool with an advanced purification system to keep lesson sanitary. The impressive student to teacher ratio keeps lessons personal and safe. One of the Goldfish Owners Bill Burnett says safety is key for everyone at Goldfish Swim School.

"It's more than vibrant colors chosen to inspire kids," Burnett says. "More than a curriculum crafted to not only teach kids to swim, but also to build their character. More than a shiver-free pool heated to 90 degrees. There's something more....it's passion."

Burnett describes this passion as not just for kids or swimming; it's a passion to teach kids how to swim and save lives by preventing water-related deaths. Goldfish Swim School uses what Burnett calls a revolutionary perpetual lessons model.

This method features: one lifeguard certified instructor for every four children, year-round swim lessons for children four months to 12 years and for swimmers of all skill levels, curriculum focused on teaching swimming and safety skills while simultaneously building character, flexible scheduling, and more.

The flexibility available to parents through the perpetual lessons model is one of the largest benefits. Instead of paying ahead for a bulk of classes, parents are able to pay month-to-month, allowing them to take breaks from swimming lessons should they need it for any reason.

"Goldfish Swim School's unique perpetual lessons model is the perfect solution for parents looking to balance a desire to keep their kids' swim skills sharp with a busy schedule," Burnett says. "Unlike typical swim lessons that you lock into a set day and time for a predetermined session, Goldfish Swim School lets you choose a lesson time that fits your family's schedule...there's no wasted time or money and, most important, your child's development stays on track with no interruptions."

The business was born in 2000 when co-founder Jenny McCuiston wanted quality swim instruction for children in her area. McCuiston started teaching lessons, became busier and busier, took her lessons to a nearby country club, and eventually opened up her own facility with the help of her husband. Ever since, there's been a steady stream of business through the Goldfish Swim School doors.

For parents seeking swimming lessons for their children, there are different membership options, and discounts for additional children and families. Goldfish Swim School also offers a water safety presentation to schools, daycare facilities and other organizations for free to promote safe water practices. Feel free to check out any of their Greater Boston locations: Braintree, Burlington, Needham and Westford.
