Boston String Ensemble Provides Sweet Sounds For All Types of Events

By Pamela Sosnowski

If you're looking for something different other than the usual band or DJ for your wedding reception or other special event, the Boston String Ensemble of Cambridge not only sets the mood but is sure to entertain. If you don't think sting music can sound hip, think again: the seven-member group is equally adept at performing Mozart or ACDC, depending upon the venue and a client's requests.

"We will work closely alongside you to plan a music set-list that you and your guests will enjoy and cherish even after the special day has passed," says the group's director, Christopher Vuk. "Our large repertoire includes traditional classical selections, jazz standards, classic rock, pop and top 40. We are continuously adding new selections, and we will turn any song that you select into a reality."

The ensemble's website offers just a small sampling of the repertoire of their song catalog, including "Marry You" by Bruno Mars, "Hornpipe from Water Music" by Handel, and "Beat It" by Michael Jackson. In fact, they can find and play any piece of requested music. Much of the time, the group is hired to provide the prelude, service, and celebratory postlude music for a wedding ceremony. But since their founding, they've entertained many notable guests.

"Since its formation over a decade ago, the Boston String Ensemble has performed at over 600 weddings and special events throughout New England," says Vuk. "Former clients include U.S. presidents, senators, governors, universities such as Harvard and MIT, and performances at local and destination weddings." The ensemble was recently voted Best Wedding Ceremony Music for the Boston A-List 2016.

The seven musicians making up the ensemble play the violin, viola, and cello, however, and are also well skilled in instruments such as the flute, piano, clarinet, and more based on a client's request. For larger events that require amplified sound, the group can also provide their own sound system. They arrive a half hour before the scheduled time of a performance to set up and make sure everything goes according to plan, especially during wedding ceremonies.

The ensemble also performed for anniversary parties, corporate events, award dinners, banquets, holiday parties, and even store openings. For these special types of events, the full group may not be needed, and clients have the option of renting a soloist, a duo, a trio, or a quartet from the group.

The group's website has an easy booking process, and Vuk works with event planners to ensure a smooth and successful event. To hear samplings of their songs and to learn more about hiring the ensemble, visit their website at www.bostonstringensemble.com.
