By Kelly Church

The Brattle Theatre is Cambridge, MA's stop for repertory theatre, a form of Western theatre where films from a specified genre, director or subject matter are shown over the duration of one week or on a selected day throughout the month. The Brattle Film Foundation, a non-profit organization that aims to create excitement in film, funds the single-screen theatre.

"The Brattle shows the best in classic, cutting-edge, foreign and art-house films and new releases of classic films, but our specialty is our repertory programming format consisting of films from a particular director, genre, or subject shown over the course of a week, or on the same weekday throughout the month," Ivy Moylan, Executive Director and Co-Founder of The Brattle Theatre, says.

Located in Harvard Square, the theatre is centrally located in order to attract students, locals and visitors from all around the world. Films shown at The Brattle Theatre range from new, independent, foreign and classic motion pictures, appealing to all types of audiences. Over the years, famed and favorite movies including Donnie Darko, Snowpiercer and Inland Empire have been shown.

Additionally, The Brattle Theatre hosts film events throughout the year. Members of The Brattle Theatre are invited to several secret member screenings throughout the year. There are also book readings, events supporting the LGBTQ community and live music events.

"The Brattle has a number of annual screening traditions that are fun for everyone: New Year's Day Marx Brothers Marathon, December screenings of It's a Wonderful Life, Valentine's Day screenings of Casablanca, our Bugs Bunny film festival every February and our Muppets Madness series every April," Moylan says.
