Classic, American Comfort At Its Best: Featuring Shake Shack of Chestnut Hill

By Kristen Bosse

No matter how much food seems to evolve over time, there is nothing more comforting than America's classic hamburger. Whether it is just a generous chunk of meat squeezed between two pieces of bread, or piled high with toppings, the feeling of comfort remains the same. With customers lined up all ours of the day, Shake Shack of Newton, MA is living proof of this theory. Residents in the area love their classic burgers, inventive hot dogs, and of course their creamy, decadent shakes. With a warm, inviting atmosphere and delicious food, you can't go wrong.

Chestnut Hill's Shake Shack Location

The origins of the Shake Shack take us a bit further away from Boston, to a hot dog stand in Madison Square Park. The hot dog stand, originally created by Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group, became quite popular in a short amount of time. Just a few years later, they received a big to open a permanent spot in Manhattan and this "roadside" burger stand was born. Nowadays, there are over fifty locations all over the world. Customers travel from all over to enjoy the all-natural burgers and dogs and classic crinkle-cut fries.

However, that's not all that is special about the restaurant. Although it is called a shack, its appearance is far from what an average shack might look like. Owners have utilized modern architecture with neon signs to catch the attention of city walkers, while still using part of the hot dog stand's original design. For example, employees at Shake Shack Newton claim that the exterior façade harkens back to a "fold-out" of the original Shack's slanted roofline. Check out the outside of the Newton location above.

Cheeseburgers

As you can see, this shack has turned from a humble hot dog cart to a gleaming sensation. But we're forgetting about the star of this successful stop- their delicious food! The Shake Shack prides itself on using 100% all-natural Angus beef, with no hormones or antibiotics ever. With a variety of burger selections to choose from, each person can find something that caters to their certain taste. Veggie lovers can try their "Shroom Burger" topped with a crispy fried Portobello mushroom filled with melted muenster and cheddar cheeses. Barbecue lovers can try the "SmokeShack Burger", topped with all-natural apple wood smoked bacon and chopped cherry peppers. However, their classic "ShackBurger" still remains most popular, topped with cheese, lettuce, tomato, and their secret ShackSauce recipe.

Hot Dogs

Nevertheless, this fast-food chain that originally sprouted from a hot dog cart continues to dish out inventive hot dog creations for their customers. The dogs are also 100% natural with no hormones, and are even split down the middle and grilled to give them a crispy outside! Looking for something outside the box? Try their "ShackMeister Dog" topped with Shack cheddar and American cheese sauce, and crispy ShackMeister Ale-marinated shallots. Or try their take on the Chicago dog with their "Shack-cago Dog", topped with Rick's Picks Shack relish, onion, cucumber, tomato, sport pepper, celery salt, mustard, and of course- the classic pickle! The great thing about the Shake Shack is that they continue to evolve their creations over time, making sure their customers are getting exactly what they like. Although the classic hot dog will always be a winner, creativity and quality ingredients puts Shake Shack at the top of the list.

Shakes, Fries, and Other Treats

Every cheeseburger or hot dog isn't complete without a good side of fries and a delicious shake to wash it all down. Shake Shack certainly gives their customers both, with crispy crinkle-cut fries and homemade shakes with frozen custard. Their rich, creamy frozen custard is definitely the real deal, made fresh daily at each location. They use real sugar, no corn syrup, and milk from dairy farmers that do not use hormones. Indulge with a shake, float with root beer, cup or cone, or even their "Concrete" option with custard and mix-ins whipped together in seconds! Not in the mood for something sweet? One of the unique things about SS is their beer and wine selection. Adults can now stop here for food and drinks before they head out on the town!

And for all you animal lovers, Shake Shack provides doggy treats for your furry friends. Their "Pooch-ini" treat is quite popular, featuring ShackBurger dog biscuits, peanut butter sauce and vanilla custard. Customers have praised the restaurant for these additions, saying it allows them to enjoy a meal with their loyal companions!

Each Shake Shack features classic, simple, and delicious food that feels good to eat. With a percentage of each location's sales given to local charitable partners, the restaurant not only fills the bellies of their residents, but helps to sustain the community as a whole.
