Find Artisan Breads And Old World Pastries At Fornax Bread Company

By S. Mathur

Since opening its doors in October of 1997, Fornax Bread Company has been supplying artisan breads to Roslindale and the Boston area. The bakery in Roslindale, MA also serves soups, sandwiches, salads, and pastries. All products are made in house and are made using all non GMO and some organic ingredients.

"Try a hot sandwich, a salad, or one of our homemade soups," owners Kimberly and Chris Fallon said. "For breakfast, try the quiche or one of the many breakfast sandwiches. For the sweet tooth, anything from the pastry case or the cookie section, would be the perfect dessert."

The bakery's signature bread is the "Boule,", with a slightly sour flavor. It is made with slow fermented milled wheat, organic whole wheat flour and organic whole rye flour. Other breads include Italian style white bread, baguettes, seeded rye, dark pumpernickel with raisins. Also find multi-grain, rosemary, garlic and sesame breads. Other treats include banana bread, biscotti, croissants, scones and other pastries. There are homemade pies and tarts for the holidays. And even dog biscuits for your faithful friend. For customer convenience, a daily baking schedule is posted on the Fornax web site.

Fornax has a welcoming feel and a loyal customer base. The bakery also supplies leading Boston restaurants with breads and other baked goods. The owners feel that what distinguishes Fornax is the skill and experience that the staff and bakers bring to their craft.

"I guess what separates good bread from the pack is the human element. Experience, patience and pride, and of course quality ingredients," Fallon said. "We are coming up on our twentieth anniversary. We have a great customer base for which we are very grateful."

Having been around for twenty years, Fornax is deeply committed to the local community. The bakery donates bread to the Shattuck Shelter, the Dimock Shelter, the Pine Street Inn and a food pantry located behind the store.
