A Hands-On Approach to Plumbing and Heating: An Interview with Forsythe Plumbing and Heating LLC.

By Kristen Bosse

Please describe a little about your company and the services you offer

Forsythe Plumbing and Heating LLC., is a full service plumbing and heating company that handles residential work from service to new installs. We are a family owned and operated business and have been serving our Boston customers since 2007. We take a hands-on approach and provide great customer service.

How did you get into this line of work?

I have always been really good with troubleshooting and mechanical skills and have a great eye for design which comes in handy especially in plumbing. Since its inception we have been providing customers with superior service, which is affirmed by our winning the prestigious Angie's List Super Service Award for the last four years in a row and we are on track to win the award again this year.

You seem to offer an enormous amount of services; would you pick any specific ones out as your specialties?

We specialize in installing high efficiency forced hot water boilers. We are also highly experienced in many other types of installs including new residential construction, and water heater replacement.

What are some of the most innovative products you offer? Can these products really help you save on heating costs?

We offer installation of high efficiency boilers including Burnham Alpine, Weil McClain Ultra, Viessman and Buderus. We are highly trained in heating and when customers decide to change from an old oil fired system to a natural gas high efficiency heating system they save a lot of money on their heating bills. One client reported saving 37% on his heating bill in a nine unit complex in Boston after we installed a high efficiency Buderus forced hot water boiler and indirect water heater for him.

In your opinion, how often should a homeowner receive the heat loss calculation service? Do you offer this?

Preventative maintenance is always a good idea on a heating system. Yearly maintenance can lower lifetime costs of a heating system because you will be able to attend to smaller problems before they become major problems.

What are some key qualities a homeowner should look for in a qualified plumbing and heating company?

Licensure, Liability insurance coverage, industry knowledge, and good references. A lot of our new business is derived from previous customer referrals. It is important for you to feel comfortable with your plumber and understand the work that is being performed. At Forsythe Plumbing and Heating LLC., our technicians always take the time to ensure customers understand the work being performed before the start of the job. We wear booties on our shoes and use mats to protect the home owners floors. We are clean and courteous and always professional with our customers.

What should new homeowners be thinking about (related to plumbing and heating) once they settle into their new home?

At Forsythe Plumbing and Heating LLC., one of the services we offer our customers is a free home walkthrough, which is invaluable in ascertaining the condition of their plumbing and heating equipment. It is always best to have a professional go over the piping so you have an accurate sense of your plumbing and so that you can take preventative measures to keep your plumbing and heating running properly.

What are some of your most difficult types of projects?

Communication is everything. We do our best to communicate clearly and often when approaching every job. This allows us to perform our job efficiently and professionally and avoid difficulties that can arise out of a lack of communication.

What are your favorite projects to work on?

We like to work on new construction projects. There is a real satisfaction in being a part of creating a place for someone to call home. We enjoy the process from start to finish and are proud to show our skills to the new homeowner who very often keeps us as their "go to" plumber.

What sets your business apart from other comparable companies? Is there anything you do better/different?

Our care to detail, professionalism, expertise and quality of work stands us apart from our competitors. Often when a new customer calls us to fix something small in their house they end up using us for many other repairs. Unfortunately, there is a lot of shoddy work already out there but we pride ourselves on being able to fix it right the first time!

What's the best way for people to get in contact with you?
