Jonas Cain is a different kind of magician. Yes, he performs for audiences and amazes them with his latest bag of tricks, but he's also a published author, a comedian, a motivational speaker, and purveyor of positivity. According to testimonials, when audiences leave a Jonas Cain show, they often feel renewed with a sense of purpose and that they can achieve anything that they put their mind to. In this way he's not just entertaining others, but helping them engage their own magic.
"I began incorporating inspiring stories and motivational life lessons into my performances in 2008," he explains. "When I perform magic my goal is to perform miracles; to allow people to experience real magic. What I've discovered is that effecting transformation in people's lives is the closest thing to real magic that I currently know how to do. I've experienced some trying times during my life, and sharing those stories and how I overcame them has proven to be therapeutic for me and for others."
Based in his hometown of Palmer, Cain has been entertaining audiences for over 20 years and has literally played every venue from backyards to colleges and universities. Past clients include the New England Patriots, the National Guard, Mass Mutual, and countless private groups and individuals.
Early in his career, he suffered the death of his best friend shortly after their engagement to be married, and chronicled his grief in a 2010 memoir, It Just Happened the Other Day: A True Story. He wrote the book not only to work through his own emotional trauma, but to show others that it's possible to move on and continue to enjoy life after a monumental loss.
Cain also supports the Hashtag Positivity movement, sharing motivational videos on his social channels as to what positivity means to him. As he explains in one video, "Choosing to live with positivity isn't just about not letting past failures keep us from trying to be better today; it's also about not letting past successes keep us from aiming even higher today. Positivity is about ignoring the failures and successes of yesterday in order to allow each new day the opportunity to reveal it's own awesome surprises."
He also leads several workshops available to groups or individuals on magic, leadership, communication, success, personal development, and more. The programs may be taken at Cain's own studio or at the client's location. For Cain, it's one of the most satisfying aspects of his career. As a youth leadership counselor for the past sixteen years, he especially enjoys teaching young adults and seeing them thrive from his courses.
"While I still regularly enjoy performing interactive comedy magic, my passion is working with emerging adults" he states. "I present motivational magic programs that give transitional students the tools they need to define their purpose, overcome obstacles, and achieve their goals. For me, the real magic is not finding someone's playing card, but rather it's inspiring people to grow to become more than they ever dreamed they could be. What's most rewarding is meeting people who participated in one of my programs, sometimes years later, and hearing what it meant to them and what they did moving forward. That, to me, is real magic!"
