Lisa Bedoya LMT Is A True Body Mechanic

By S. Mathur

Everyone is welcome at her healing center, says LMT and Reiki master teacher Lisa Bedoya. And she means, everyone.

"My clients are greater Boston professionals, students, Brighton natives, West Coast transplants, international academics," she said. "They are construction workers, bankers, artists, nurses, teachers, nannies. Twenty something to eighty something, I see all kinds of people."

After gaining years of training and experience in massage therapy and reiki in diverse locations including the Dominican Republic, Seattle, and Florida, she returned to Boston in 2007. In 2009, in she opened her own practice and moved it to Brighton MA recently.

Bedoya's clients normally have two distinct kinds of reasons for coming to the healing center. Either they're in pain, whether it's long term chronic pain or a sudden crick in the neck that interrupts their normal routines. Or they're dealing with severe stress and anxiety, which is the pathway to more serious health problems. In either case, they have reached the point where they're willing to try anything new. Bedoya encourages them to listen to their bodies.

"If a person has never received a professional massage, but is thinking about getting a massage, it probably means their body is sending that request to their brain!" She said. "Many of them get relief, not just from massage, but with the additional applications of massage cupping, assisted stretching, and Reiki. They are willing to experiment with various techniques to discover which are most effective for their specific conditions."

Clients will find the healing center located in a charming converted Victorian, on a tree lined street. Inside, the decor emphasizes.

"Natural fibers, earth tones, clean, cozy, simple, lucky bamboo!" Bedoya said. "Friendly and unpretentious. I strive for the vibe of best-kept-secret-urban-oasis-type place."

Clients can relax, kick off their shoes, and talk about how things are going. New clients can ask any and all questions they may have, and be sure of getting answers about how each session is going to work. Bedoya even offers a complimentary 15 minute trial massage to new clients.

They quickly discover that they've come to the right place. Most clients have been living with chronic pain or stress for a long time. They may have tried many different medications and treatments, and found that nothing really helps. Or they may looking to complement medical or physical therapy treatment. Bedoya has many loyal clients, including those from her Boston Back Bay days. Post massage, she can direct them to nearby neighborhood hangouts like the Dash Cafe and Cafe Nation for a revivifying tea or sandwich.

Testimonials from clients are proof of her skills in dealing with everything from migraines to pinched nerves to a frozen shoulder from unsuccessful surgery. Perhaps the best compliment is from a client who calls her a true body mechanic. Everybody needs one of those, and Bedoya's clients are lucky to have found her.
