Paddle into Your New Adventure with the Help of Westport's Osprey Sea Kayak

Osprey Sea Kayak Adventures located in Westport, Massachusetts specializes in kayak, canoe, and paddle board lessons, instructor training and certification, and equipment rentals. Licensed by the American Canoe Association Professional Paddle Sport School, Osprey Sea Kayak also offers instructor certification courses. Owner Carl Ladd says that paddlers and kayakers of all levels are welcome at Osprey to learn, have fun, and fall in love with these water sports.

Ladd is an American Canoe Association Level 5 Instructor and Level 4 Instructor Trainer with years of experience in these water sports and a passion for teaching students of all levels. Teaching, running a full retail shop, and service center for the last sixteen years takes not only knowledge, but also passion. Ladd's goal is to impart that passion onto his students through tailored instruction and personalized attention, both of which he and his wife and partner are very good at.

At Osprey, you can choose among the following: comprehensive sea kayaking, surf kayaking, and stand-up paddling instruction, tours, team-building programs, rentals, and sales and service. Welcoming paddlers of all levels, Osprey offers courses which develop your on-water paddling skills, precision, and judgment. "We offer a broad spectrum of tours and adventure trips that will satisfy paddlers looking for anything from a relaxing salt-marsh cruise to the challenges of rock gardens, surf, and open water," Ladd explains.

The Osprey shop in Westport, Massachusetts is located at the Head of the East Branch of the Westport River, an ideal location with a scenic rural landscape and ample opportunities for bird watching. In addition, the Westport River is known for its easy paddling and for New England's largest concentration of breeding ospreys, giving visitors a unique chance to witness these special birds up close. "We're located within minutes of pristine salt marshes, protected bays and harbors, and the open waters and waves of Buzzards Bay and the Elizabeth Islands," says Ladd.

Offering instructor certification courses is an important aspect of Ladd's business, which trains the next generation of teachers and thus continues the sporting tradition, which is so popular on the east coast. For those first-timers seeking to find out what kayaking is like, Ladd recommends they get their feet wet right away.

Kayaking and canoeing are easy to take up and don't require too much in the way of previous experience except perhaps some basic balancing skills. "If you are new to kayaking, take a class or private lesson from a certified instructor, the experience is like no other, a person can access areas no other vessel can, and we only need three inches of water to play in," he adds reassuringly.

Ladd wants people to know that the format of Osprey's lessons is simple yet effective, and the ultimate goal is to help them learn this fun new activity so they can enjoy it for many years. The instructors are expertly trained, so students are in the best of hands. "Our format's goal is education, everyone who works at the shop is a certified instructor or is on the path to becoming one," Ladd adds.
