Sip on Your Coffee and Unwind at Gray's Daily Grind

An unpretentiously charming coffee shop with an impressive variety of coffees, teas, and pastries, Gray's Daily Grind has fashioned itself outside of the box. The café and bakery also carries souvenirs, apparel, and fine foods made by local artists and producers. Artisanal pantry items in stock include local honey and jams. Visitors can also find locally published books celebrating the rich history of the area. Gray's is a proud purveyor of crafts and sundries that express the history, spirit, and grit of New England. There is even a signature line of Gray's Daily Grind t-shirts, mugs, aprons and totes.

Gray's Daily Grind is located on the historic Gray's Grist Mill site, one of the oldest continually operating grist mills in the country. You can stop in and see the mill operating on Saturdays, which brings in curious visitors from all over New England.

Owner and manager of Gray's, Mary Miska thinks a lot about the integrity of the ingredients she uses. She has committed to procuring her pastries from only the best bakers in town, organic when possible, as well as locally roasted, organic, single-origin, fair trade coffee. Gray's is home to delicately brewed coffee and espresso drinks prepared by experienced baristas. The service is personal and friendly and the atmosphere warm and inviting.

"All [our] drinks are custom prepared and of the highest quality ingredients," Miska said. "Our house specialty is the 'Mind Grind', a super caffeinated, amazing drink made only at Gray's Daily Grind."

Gray's sticks with four distinct brands of organic coffee beans: White Egret Decaf, Osprey, Two Geese, and Heron all haling from either Peru or Indonesia. The Egret Decaf is richer in body and overall balance than its regular Peruvian counterpart and still has a lot of flavor unmuted by the decaffeinating process. The Two Geese coffee is spicy, floral yet nippy with acidity, full of creamy flavor while portraying both light and dark roast characteristics.

Alongside classic favorites like latte and cappuccino, you will also find unique caffeinated creations such as Gray's Daily Grind Joe au lait and the Grind Mocha Java Joe with a shot of hot Ghirardelli cocoa. Customers can explore the coffee and tea station if they want to prepare their hot drinks themselves. Couple a hot cup of Joe or artisanal tea with a freshly baked blueberry turnover or a slice of white cornbread with locally made raspberry jam, and you might just stay a little longer.
