The Loft Salon Helps Transform Guests with Extensions, Color, and More

By S. Mathur

The Loft is a salon with a difference. A number of differences, actually. Owner Ann Marie Walts understands how important it is to clients to find a stylist who listens, and she considers the initial consultation to be a very important part of the process. To give the client undivided attention, she does not double book. And finally, Walt is also a creative artist, who has just opened a professional photo studio in addition to her work at the salon.

Walts' approach to hair styling and care is based in her training and twenty plus years of experience. Her professional certifications set the salon apart from the competition. She has shared her knowledge with stylists around the country, and spent spent ten years traveling as a hair color educator for Redken/Loreal. She has taught creative and business techniques to hairstylists and businesses of all sizes.

Walts feels that the first and best service she can offer her clients, is the consultation: "From there, I can really get to know my new client and aim to fulfill their needs. The backbone to the consistent makeover results are due to my very detailed customer-oriented consultation process. Over the years, as much as I have been acquiring my skill sets, I have learned from my 20 plus years of working with clients that they are not listened to enough."

The salon offers a complete makeover experience as well as corrective solutions, from head to toe. These include hair styling, color, extensions, and straightening, eyelash extensions, makeup, and manicures and pedicures. Another point of difference that sets The Loft apart from other salons, says Walts, is that "I offer an extremely private appointment and atmosphere. About 20 years ago, I stopped double booking my guests' appointment. I began to focus on one guest, and one guest only; with any and all services that I offer."

Walts has recently opened her own professional photography studio. After years of taking her own "Before" and "After" pictures of client makeovers, she was inspired to take up photography professionally: "My inspiration came from reading an beauty industry related article, almost 20 years ago, about a hairstylist that was also a photographer. In 2001 I took some formal black and white photography courses. I incorporated that into my daily salon happenings."

Clients benefit from Walts' creative talents in a number of ways. For those wanting a complete and stunning makeover, there's no longer a need to drive down to New York or Boston. Not only are the results almost unbelievably good, the undivided attention that she gives her clients creates a relaxing and pampering experience, which for many people is an essence of any beauty routine.
