The Paint Bar: Adding Color to Date Night

By Elisha Neubauer

Whether you're just sick of the same, tired date nights or are trying to find a memorable activity for a first date- why not make art together? At The Paint Bar in Newton, you can avoid the awkward silences that are common during first dates by filling the evening with drinks, painting, and fun.

Most patrons are first time painters with little to no experience with art. At The Paint Bar, the entire class tries their hand at the same scene, with the instructors patiently walking everyone, step-by-step, through the process. No need to bring any supplies- everything (including an apron) is provided. At the end of the night, you and your date each walk away with a fantastic piece of art and a great story to tell afterwards.

The Paint Bar

Still relatively new on the scene, The Paint Bar was opened in 2010 by Jill Kerner Schon and her daughter, Jackie. After seeing a similar concept in Atlanta, the mother-daughter duo decided to take the plunge and bring social painting to Boston. Their idea took off in a big way, leading to the opening of a second location in Newton. The Schon women strive to create an inviting atmosphere perfect for social interactions. Beer and wine are available for purchase, music plays, and chatting is encouraged.

On top of offering two brick and mortar locations, a travel van- humorously entitled the Van Go- is available to bring all the fun of painting to your home, work, or party venue. Painting Parties are a great go-to for adding a distinctive edge to any event- children's birthdays, corporate events, baby showers, and bachelorette parties. Not only will your guests enjoy the process while in attendance, but they will leave with a hand-crafted keepsake to remind them of your unexpected event.

Check out The Paint Bar's activity calendar online to reserve a class. If you find yourself looking for something to do at the last minute, don't panic- the Paint Bar does take walk-ins. So add some color to date night (or girls' night, sibling night, or any other night,) by stopping by the Paint Bar.
