Top Five Best School Systems in Metro West

By Colleen Colkitt

Everyone knows that especially in this day and age, education is one of the most important pathways to a better life and future. The top 5 school systems were chosen from the Metro West area based on certain criteria that many parents or advocates for education value most. The ranking was decided using test scores, percentage of students moving on to college, graduation rate, number of Advanced Placement classes students enrolled in, and number of clubs or sports teams students participated in.

5. Dover-Sherborn

Ranking first in the entire state of Massachusetts for several years, Dover-Sherborn is on the list because of the excellence the school has demonstrated in the past. It was ranked number one in the entire state for the year 2011, which is why it is mentioned here on this list.

The school is in Dover, a town in Norfolk County, MA. It's only about 15 miles from Boston and it's also along the Charles River.

4. Hopkinton High School

Hopkinton High School ranked number 23 for 2012 Boston Magazine's top schools. This school continues to pull great rankings, but it should be mentioned Holliston High School was neck in neck with Hopkinton for several years. Holliston ranked number 26 for 2012.

Hopkinton High School is located in Hopkinton, MA. It is only about 30 miles from Boston, and it is in Middlesex County.

3. Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School

This is definitely a school to watch. It is located in Sudbury, Massachusetts but has students from both Sudbury and Lincoln as well. The school building was rebuilt in 2005, and it even has its own radio station.

Sudbury, MA is a part of the Metro West region, and has rich colonial history tied to its land.

2. Wayland High School

Wayland came in at number 6 on the 2012 public school ranking list. This school has been on top of the list for several years in a row. It is located half-way between Boston and Worcester, making it part of the Metro West.

1. Weston High School

This school has been on the top of the school system rankings for many years. While they have not been number one every year, Weston High School is Boston Magazine's 2012 best public high school in the state.
