Where to Find Tranquility in Brookline

By Kristen Bosse

In the fast-paced world of Greater Boston, it can sometimes be hard to find a tranquil spot to simply relax and de-stress. Most shops in town tend to cater to the go-getter, placing caffeine and/or free WiFi at the top of the list. However, in the midst of all this chaos, residents of Brookline sometimes feel the need to take a break and make time for something a little different. This is where locations like Southwest Day Spa come in to bring invaluable services to their customer including massages, body wraps and treatments, waxing, facials, detox programs, and much more. Those interested in a peacefull and soothing afternoon should visit their cozy brownstone on Beacon Street and escape the everyday bustle of the city.

Southwest Day Spa

Since 1994, Southwest Day Spa has acted as a hidden oasis for residents of Brookline and Greater Boston alike. Staff members are highly trained and strive to provide high-quality, cutting-edge services that stay in line with recent trends. For example, apart from the usual massage and body wraps, the spa offers multiple wellness services including a detox program, ginger compress, ear candling, reflexology, and even Reiki (pronounced ray-key), which is an ancient mind, body, and spiritual healing technique, administered through a gentle "laying-on-of-the-hands."

Perhaps the most interesting service offered is their Ginger Compress, an hour long session of not only body, but mental relaxation. This is accomplished by stimulating blood flow, releasing toxins and blocked energy from the body. The Ginger Compress is a detoxifying treatment applied to the kidney, liver or any other area that is in pain. It works by strengthening the internal organs. This treatment soothes and brings relief to muscle stiffness, arthritis and pain due to injury. Other services include Colon Hydrotherapy, which is a very popular trend that uses water is to detoxify and hydrate the body, to stimulate the bowel's muscle activity, and to evacuate waste from the large intestine.

Levina Deslandes, Owner of Southwest Day Spa, also explained their seaweed wrap, which acts as a perfect compliment to the Colon Hydrotherapy or any massage.
"The seaweed wrap detoxifies and increases the skin's circulation by using a micronized algae wrap. The seaweed acts as diuretic, draining retained liquids eliminating toxicity and reducing the appearance of cellulite. It is recommended to drink a lot of water and eat a clean, detoxifying diet for the maximum results."

Delandes also was nice enough to give her opinion on why she believes taking a minute out to relax is truly vital to the sustainability of one's strength and well being. "Living under a stressful situation will create disease", Levina claims. "When we are stressed, our hormones produce hormones such as cortisol in our systems which can contribute to chronic conditions such as hypertension, headaches. When we are stressed we cannot perform at our peak and have the tendency to burn out. It is important to take time to care for yourself, both physically and mentally."

Southwest Day Spa certainly has plenty of services that are sure to help you take care of yourself physically mentally. Take a trip over and try out their world-class massages for some physical rejuvenation, or try out their Reiki service that is sure to promote a healthier mental state.
