Yum Bunnies Cakery Makes Truly Memorable Cakes and Cupcakes

By S. Mathur

Cakes and cupcakes that are film and TV stars in their own right. What more could one ask for? The taste, for one, says Owner Jessa Sahakian: "We believe that we offer customers the best quality cakes - flavor, moistness - and the most unique, customized decorations of any bakery in the area. Our cakes make every event special, whether it's a family dinner or celebration of an important event. We take great care creating cakes that are unique to each customer's tastes and ideas - cakes that enhance any gathering and that customers and guests will remember for a long time."

The Cakery has a retail store in Belmont MA, and anyone with a sudden craving for the delicious cupcakes can just stop by. Cakes are a little more complicated and need a week's notice. They are, however, well worth the wait. They can be designed in any shape imaginable, and to get an idea of exactly how far Yum Bunnies Cakery will go to faithfully execute an order, here is one customer's story.

"My husband ordered a birthday cake from Yum Bunnies. It was a cake replicate of the Salk Institute in La Jolla, where I used to work. There are three sea lions at the foot of the cake, me taking a paraglide in the sky, the eternity river on the courtyard, and even the solar panels on top of the building! The cake is AMAZING! It looks so real and every part of it tastes fantastic. I burst into happy tears when I saw the cake - it totally reminds me of the happy days at the Salk Institute. Yum Bunnies, you bring happiness to everybody!"

More conventional birthday cake requests produce confectionary that looks like The Very Hungry Caterpillar or a foaming glass of Guiness. The taste, too, is remarkable. Another customer recalls her introduction to Yum Bunnies cakes: "I first had one of their cakes at my best friends wedding. It was so good we were eating it with our hands after the wedding."

How did Sahakian learn to make cakes so good that people eat them with their hands? After graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Baking and Pastry Arts from Johnson and Wales University, she put in years of hard work at a cake shop. In 2007, she decided she was ready to open her own store.

"We have been in Belmont at the same location for nine years. Yum Bunnies creates unique custom design cakes for all occasions. Our bakers and decorators relish the opportunity to use their skill and artistry to create truly memorable cakes, whether traditional or whimsical in design."

And the films? Yum Bunny cakes play a prominent role in films like Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Pink Panther 2, and What's Your Number? And not to be left behind, Yum Bunny cupcakes appeared on The Food Network's Cupcake Wars. Both cakes and cupcakes come in any flavor you can think of, but the most popular ones are chocolate with vanilla buttercream and red velvet with cream cheese.
