The Town of Mount Washington is a residential community located in Berkshire County. The town is zoned residential with no commercial businesses or industries and is one of the smallest towns in the Commonwealth in terms of its population. The 1990 census lists 135 residents.
The town is situated among the Berkshire mountains, at an estimated 1661 feet above sea level. It has many outdoor scenic attractions, such as Bash Bish Falls, Mt. Everett, second highest peak in Massachusetts and the place where the Appalachian Trail traverses, and a state park enclosing over 6000 acres. The last weekend in June is the time for visitors and residents to enjoy the mountain laurel in full bloom in all of this untouched land.
Recently, some portions of the town have been designated as Areas of Critical Environmental Concern. This section of the Berkshires takes pride in its pristine beauty and is home to many rare plant and animal species.
