Established in 1763, the Town of Warwick owes its beginnings to land given to descendants of 39 soldiers from Roxbury who distinguished themselves in the Canadian campaign. The hilly land was originally settled in the 1740's and residents have achieved some local fame for their longevity. This extended life-span is supposed to be due to the healthy and bracing climate of the town.
The original agricultural economy of Warwick had expanded by the mid-nineteenth century to include saw mills, pail, stave and axe factories, blacksmith shops and tanneries. Although Warwick is still a small rural town, its population did grow by 22% between 1980 and 1990, one of the highest growth rates in the county.
Warwick acts as host to past and present residents, as well as visitors, at its Old Home Day each year, an event which combines barbecues, flea markets and crafts shows.
