As the town name indicates, Millville was a small mill village and was home to several manufacturing shops, including U.S. Rubber Company which was its largest employer. The crash of 1929 destabilized not just the U.S. Rubber Company but also the town itself. The town was put under a municipal finance board from 1933 until 1944 when the town regained its right to conduct its own affairs. The town has evolved into a beautiful rural small town since then, displaying its many historic treasures, including the Chestnut Hill Meeting House and old Locks Cave; the Blackstone River.
The town recently opened a brand new elementary school and is a member of the Blackstone-Millville Regional School System. Millville is very active in the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor.
