For Bo and Bill Winiker, music has been a huge part of their life since they were running around in diapers. It all started with their father who was a professional musician during their childhood. Once they reached of age, they too joined his band and joined in on his passion for music. "Not all children buy into their dads concept of what their lives should be but we bought in hook line and sinker and have been professional musicians for most of our lives. It was the best decision we have made so far", says Bo.
After participating in their father's band, both Bo and Bill went on to attend music conservatories in the Boston area. When Bo graduated, his career seemed to take off. He toured worldwide with the New England Conservatory's Grammy Award-winning "Ragtime Ensemble", under the direction of Gunther Schuller as well as with the Stan Kenton Orchestra. Bo has appeared as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic and the Cleveland Orchestra, and has also recorded on the movie soundtrack "A League of Their Own" with Billy Joel. He even performed at the White House for President Ford and at two Presidential Inaugurations for Presidents Carter and Clinton. After Bill graduated, he began to produce and narrate many original programs on all aspects of American popular music and jazz.
Nowadays, Bo and Bill are extremely involved in the music scene in Boston. For their 50th anniversary (being in the music business), the duo was invited to play the National Anthem at Fenway Park for the Red Sox 100th anniversary celebration (pictured above). They have actually performed the National Anthem at Fenway Park multiple times, and even performed the anthem for five seasons at the Boston Garden for the Celtics during the Larry Bird era. In addition to their contributions in the sports world, the duo previously performed at a jazz brunch at Skipjack's Boston for 25 years. Although the restaurant recently closed, they have now started a new jazz brunch each Sunday at the Waltham Westin Hotel from 10-1pm as well as Tuesday and Wednesday evenings in the lounge from 6-8pm.
When the pair are not running around Boston for performances, they partake in more conventional activities such as weddings, corporate events, and social occasions. Based on the size and needs for the event, the two perform alone, in a small ensemble, or in a large 16 piece party band. The party band is extremely popular for weddings in the area and is known for providing a large variety of music. Whether you want old school funk and Motown, or new age Hip-Hop and Pop, the band has got you covered!
Bo and Bill both have had a genuine passion for music since they were little, which can clearly be seen in the way they light up each time they play.
"My brother Bill and I have worked side by side for more than 50 years. He has been my best friend and biggest supporter as well as my press agent, letting our fans know about each and every performance. The years have gone by like two snaps of a finger. It is still a thrill for each one of us each time we perform."
