Think sustainability and environmentally friendly are far from fashionable in the world of beauty? Think again, as there is a whole new wave of salons that believe in putting the green into makeup and hair design without the noxious chemicals and waste products so common to the industry's past.
While there are some big-name players embracing the sustainable salon model, these companies are a small part of the new trend. According to the recently formed National Association of Eco-Friendly Salons and Spas (NAEFSS), "It is the mainstream professional who will create the biggest shift in the way the industry operates in the future."
This holds true for Verde Boutique Salon in Braintree, where you will experience the best nontoxic hair and makeup styling around. Verde is Spanish for green, and this salon definitely puts the color into looking your best, living up to their "Earth Friendly Salon" slogan. Verde offers a complete range of hair care for both women and men that includes cutting, coloring and styling, along with makeup and face waxing. Brides come to Verde for healthy hair and makeup styling for that special day.
Co-owned by Deanna Warwick and longtime friend Ashley Sexton, both senior stylists, Verde Boutique Salon has been in business since 2012. Deanna holds Massachusetts licenses in cosmetology, barbering and aesthetics. Both women have over a decade of experience in the beauty and styling industry, enabling them to smoothly manage seven hair stylists, each with their own unique design skills. "As stylists, we are influenced by everything from European fashion mags, nature, celebrities, and art," Deanna notes. "We have the ability to draw inspiration from anything beautiful that can translate to hair."
Business is booming all year long due to Verde's numerous five-star online reviews, but especially in the Spring and Fall with their many wedding clients. Their customers are drawn to Verde's organic hair color and eco-friendly products. Requests are often unique and run from "bold violets and angular shapes to natural blended colors and layered cuts with soft waves," explains Deanna, whose favorite beauty trends for 2015 are long bobs and crimson lipstick.
Just as style trends change, Braintree is ever evolving. Since opening over two years ago, these salon owners have seen an increasing number of area residents realize the importance of going verde. Deanna enthusiastically says, "People are constantly calling saying they wanted to make a change to a healthier, more natural salon." She further adds, "Things like the farmer's market and great small businesses will keep Braintree fabulous!"
